Lubricants Incompatible? You Need To Pay Attention To These Details

Lubricating oil generally consists of two parts: base oil and additive. Base oil is the main component of lubricating oil, determines the basic properties of lubricating oil, additives can make up for and improve the performance of base oil deficiencies, give some new properties, is an important part of lubricating oil.

 

When using lubricating oil, if the following phenomena occur, it indicates that lubricating oil appears "incompatible" phenomenon.

1. Oil film strength is affected

Increased wear, temperature, heat, vibration or noise.

2. Reduced demulsification ability

Lubricating oil originally has good demulsification ability -- it can quickly separate from water when it comes into contact with water. However, after mixing, the demulsification ability of lubricating oil is not good, and emulsification of lubricating oil will occur.

3. Color change

During use, it is normal for the color and clarity of the lubricating oil to change with use. However, the lubricating oil has not been used much before the color changes, transparency decreases, and the lubricating oil becomes dark. It should be considered whether incompatible lubricating oil is introduced.

4. Bubble problems occur

One of the symptoms that may result from lubricating oil incompatibility is a decrease in the ability of lubricating oil to "handle" air: in the form of: reduced bubble resistance, air in the oil does not escape, and foam increases.

5. Insoluble substances appear

Flocculent, additive precipitation, paint film, sludge, sediment, oil level down in the oil pool and other places to leave dirt layer, oil filter in advance blockage, these may be lubricating oil incompatible byproducts.

 

Cause of lubricating oil incompatibility

1. When different base oils are mixed, reactions occur between base oils, resulting in poor dissolution of additives.

2. Chemical reactions occur between different base oils, or the base oils repel each other.

3. The base oil reacts with foreign additives to produce intermediate products.

4. Incompatibility between different additives results in insoluble products of base oil.

5. Different additives neutralize each other, weakening or even changing the original effect of additives.

Pay attention to the following details to avoid lubricating oil incompatibility problems:

1. Oil merger: if you used several different lubricating oil before, now you have adjusted, ready to reduce the oil in use to less. Oil merger, unification has its benefits, but we should pay special attention to the compatibility of oil when changing.

2. Change oil supplier: If you change another lubricating oil supplier or change the brand of lubricating oil, you need to make comprehensive judgment and test to avoid incompatibility problems.

3. Upgrade oil products: The machine has higher requirements for lubricating oil, oil products upgrade or change to special oil products.

4. Be aware of new and reassembled machines: Some machines have anti-corrosion coating on the inside surface, or have lubricating oil in certain areas that you may not know about, so you need to know in advance.

5. Human factors: The work of equipment lubrication should be assigned to special personnel, and marked with the corresponding error prevention/reminder mark.
