What is API GL-4 and GL-5 gear oil?
API GL-4 and GL-5 gear oils are 2 different gear oil grades for vehicle gear lubrication. They are mainly designed for different gear parts and working conditions to provide comprehensive protection for gear.
Gear oil API GL-4 is used for manual transmission gears and is suitable for moderate loads transmission application.
Gear oil API GL-5 is a high performance gear oil for hypoid gear. Hypoid gears bear a complex condition of high speed impact load, high speed low torque and low speed high torque. The gear surface is mainly lubricant friction, that is difficulty to form a complete oil film, making the gear in a boundary lubricant for a long time.
