4 Reasons To Choose Polyether Gear Lubricants
Leave a message
In the field of industrial lubricants, polyalkylene glycols (PAGs) are widely used in gear oils, compressor oils, oven oils, and air conditioning compressor oils. Their popularity stems from their inherently superior properties: excellent viscosity-temperature characteristics (high viscosity index), excellent low-temperature performance (low pour point), outstanding lubricity, and excellent high-temperature cleanliness.
Polyether synthetic industrial gear oils have extremely low friction coefficients, which effectively reduce equipment operating temperatures and power consumption, thereby achieving energy savings.PAGs are particularly suitable for high-slip gears and various gear and worm gear drive systems operating under harsh conditions.
PAG-based lubricants formulated with polyether as the base oil exhibit excellent viscosity-temperature characteristics and extreme pressure anti-wear performance, meeting the lubrication requirements under high-load and high-impact conditions. eg, elevator traction systems mostly use worm gear drive mechanisms.
This polyalkylene glycol worm gear oil formulation uses an ethylene oxide/propylene oxide (EO/PO) water-soluble copolymer as the base oil, with a kinematic viscosity of 325.2 mm²/s at 40°C, a viscosity index of 241, and a pour point of -41°C.
Gear lubricants can be classified according to their base oil as follows:
Mineral oil type: Extracted from crude oil, it's also the most commonly used.
Synthetic oil type: Synthetic oils are widely used in lubricants. synthetic base oils or esters, and polyalkylene glycol, as synthetic base oils, can all be used for Synthetic gear oil.

Four Reasons to Choose Polyether Gear Lubricants:
1. High Viscosity Index(VI) And Low Pour Point.
Polyalkylene Glycols (PAGs) have viscosity-temperature characteristics. The viscosity index gradually increases with increasing EO content. E.g., Chorus's PAG-68, viscosity index (VI) of 160 , pour point of -45℃; PAG-320 : viscosity index (VI) of 239 , pour point of -30℃.
2. Excellent Lubrication Performance.
At the same viscosity, Polyalkylene Glycol (PAG) have a lower friction coefficient than mineral oils. Their polarity and low viscosity-pressure coefficient allow them to form a stable and robust lubricating film under various lubrication conditions, resulting in low friction and shear resistance. Their lubricity is superior to mineral oils, polyalphaolefins, and diesters, but not as good as polyol esters and phosphate esters. The flexible and adjustable structure of polyethers allows them to be blended with other oils to meet a wide range of needs, giving them a unique advantage as a base oil in various fields such as gear oils and high- and low-temperature lubricants.
3. Good Oxidation Resistance.
Under oxygen-free conditions, they can be used up to approximately 250℃. They do not easily generate various oxides, reducing carbon deposits and sludge accumulation during combustion, protecting equipment from corrosion, and extending equipment lifespan.
4.Excellent Heat Dissipation.
PAGs quickly dissipate high-temperature heat under high gear loads, reducing temperature, thereby reducing friction loss, conserving energy, and improving energy efficiency.

Zhengzhou Chorus supplies polyether base fluids, including both water-soluble and water-insoluble PAGs.These PAGs can be used as base oils for gear lubricants, air compressor oils, refrigeration lubricants, textile lubricants, and other industrial lubricants.
