What is Polyalkylene Glycol (PAG) base Oil?

Polyalkylene glycol (PAG) is the common name for the homopolymers of Ethylene Oxide(EO), Propylene Oxide(PO), or Butylene Oxide(BO); or the copolymers of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, and/or butylene oxide.
In the lubricants industry, PAG Oil is a synthetic base oil, classified as API Group V oil, and lubricants based on PAG are generally high-quality and have longer service life than conventional mineral base oil lubricants. PAGs are widely used in various Industrial lubricants, metalworking fluids, quenching fluids, and others.

Main Types of Polyalkylene Glycol (PAG) Oil

Due to the Polyalkylene Glycols' diversity and the complexity of their chemical structures, There are so many types of PAGs, to make it simple, PAGs are classified into water-soluble PAGs, water-insoluble PAGs, oil-soluble PAGs and other types include random copolymers PAG, block copolymers PAG, reverse block copolymers and etc.

Why polyalkylene glycol (PAG) as base oil?

The Advantages of PAG Based Lubricants

01/

Super Cleanliness

Compared to mineral oils, PAG-based oil comes with cleanliness, it is super clean and burned off without sludge, varnish, and almost no carbon deposits and residue;

02/

Water Solubility

Some PAGs produced from ethylene oxide and propylene oxide have unique water-solubility at normal temperatures, and they are suitable for use in some machinery that needs easy to clean, e.g. textile lubricants;

03/

Lower Pour Point

PAG Oils have a relatively low pour point, at a low temperature, they are still flowable ( not frozen), and they are suitable for low-temperature operations.

04/

Fire-Resistant

PAG oil was developed to substitute mineral-based lubricants which are easy to ignite. PAGs work as a viscosity thickener in fire-resistant hydraulic fluids widely used in foundries, steel mills, etc.

05/

High Viscosity Index

PAG has a High Viscosity Index, so lubricants based on PAGs normally have a wider working temperature range. PAG oil will maintain its viscosity even when the temperature drastically changes

06/

Low Volatility & High Flash Point

PAG lubricants generally have high flash points and low volatility which means that they lower evaporation loss at high-temperature operations and higher working temperatures.

07/

High Oxidative Stability

PAG oil normally has resistance to oxidation and long service life even when in contact with water contaminants.

08/

Eco-friendly

PAG comes with very low toxicity and has been approved for food contact lubricant applications.lower MW PAG oils are biodegradable, and they are widely used in environmentally sensitive applications.

FAQ

Q: What is the Difference Between Water Soluble PAGs& Water Insoluble PAGs?

A: Water-soluble PAGs are manufactured from ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, Water-insoluble PAGs are made from propylene oxide alone. These water-insoluble PAGs are neither water-soluble nor oil-soluble.

Q: What Are PAGs Made From?

A: The raw materials to manufacture PAGs are ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and butylene oxide.

Q: Is Polyalkylene Glycol (PAG) Base Oil hazardous?

A: Polyalkylene glycols have a low degree of toxicity, and higher flash points, they are not considered to be dangerous goods.

Q: Is PAG-based Lubricant eco-friendly?

A: PAG-based lubricants come with many advantages over mineral oil-based lubricants, generally, they are environmentally friendly.

Q: May I have a sample of Synthetic PAG Oil?

A: Yes, you are welcome to contact us for a sample of PAG oil. Chorus company understands the importance of testing and try to make the PAG oil sample delivery process as easy and reliable as possible.

Q: What is the package of PAG basestocks?

A: 200L Steel drum or IBC, and other customized packages. For the detailed packing of PAG oils, please do not hesitate to contact our sales engineer.

Q: What is the MOQ for PAG Synthetic oil ?

A: The minimum order quantity is one pallet( 200kg * 4 drums), or one IBC (1000kg).

Q: What are the prices of PAG Oils?

A: Due to the Polyalkylene Glycols' diversity and the complexity of their chemical structures, There are many types of PAGs, such as water-soluble, water-insoluble, and various viscosity grades. It is hard to say their price simply. Please talk with our sales engineer for the detailed price.

Q: What is the shelf life of PAG base oils?

A: Generally, the shelf life of PAG Oils lasts for 1 years
