Ethylene Glycol (MEG) For Coolant / Antifreeze
Ethylene Glycol (MEG), CAS Number: 107-21-1, is a key component in Antifreeze & Coolant Solutions.
Ethylene Glycol (EG) is an important organic compound widely formulated in automotive antifreeze and engine coolant.
Description
Introduction
Ethylene glycol is also known as glycol, 1,2-ethylene glycol, or EG for short.
Ethylene Glycol (EG) is an important organic compound widely formulated in automotive antifreeze and engine coolant. It is a colorless, odorless, and sweet-tasting liquid.
In car antifreeze formulations, ethylene glycol effectively prevents engines from freezing in winter and overheating in summer. When mixed with water (typically in a 50:50 ratio), it depresses the freezing point to about minus 35°C while raising the boiling point, ensuring optimal engine performance year-round. Combined with the corrosion-inhibiting additives, the coolant /antifreeze solution protects radiators, pipes, and other metal components from corrosion, extending the lifespan of vehicle cooling systems.
