Introduction
Chorus TTA-42 is a water-soluble liquid metal deactivator based on tolyltriazole (TTA) derivatives, fully compatible with aqueous and glycol-based systems.
As an alternative to solid benzotriazole (BTA) and tolyltriazole (TTA), it is mainly designed for antifreeze/coolant systems to:
- Inhibit corrosion on copper/copper alloys
- Suppress cobalt leaching from hard alloys
- When combined with carboxylate rust inhibitors, it offers multiple metal corrosion protection performances.
Application
Engine antifreezes/coolants, including:
- Passenger & Commercial vehicle extended-life coolants.
- Heavy duty engine coolants.
- Water-glycol hydraulic fluids.
Recommended Treat Rate: 0.1%–0.5% (ww)

Why does TTA-42 work as an alternative to solid benzotriazole (BTA) and tolyltriazole (TTA)? What is TTA-42's benefit?
1. Liquid TTA-42 is easier to blend coolant/antifreeze, and it can usually be blended at room temperature without heating.
2. Liquid TTA-42 is better for extremely low temperature antifreeze.
Generally speaking, in low-temperature cold areas, the solubility of TTA/BAT in ethylene glycol aqueous solution is low, and it is easy for solid BTA/TTA to not be completely dissolved; that is, supersaturated precipitation (forming microcrystals) may occur. These precipitates are generally in the form of needle-shaped/flaky crystals, which may block the coolant hoses at extremely low temperatures.
However, liquid TTA-42 does not have this situation, which is more conducive to preparing antifreeze in cold climates.
